JVC Provides Weblink to De Beers Indirect Purchaser Claim Form

RAPAPORT… New York City – December 28, 2007: A link to the form to make a claim under the De Beers Indirect Purchaser/Reseller class action lawsuit is available on Jewelers Vigilance Committee’s (JVC) website, http://www.jvclegal.org.

JVC’s website includes guidance to complete the form and a series of frequently asked questions. The lawsuit and claim form covers gem-quality diamonds only. In addition, jewelry industry members who have questions about completing the form can contact JVC’s web hotline for help jvcquestions@aol.com. A link to the Direct Purchasers claim form will be posted on JVC’s website as soon as it is available.

Starting on December 28, 2007, a court authorized media campaign to notify consumer class members about making a claim will commerce. Advertisements in hundreds of newspapers, magazines (both trade and consumer) and on the radio will run until February 2008.

The Court also ordered that on December 28, 2007, written notice about the claim form will be mailed, first class, to approximately 50,000 entities covered under the lawsuit. Those who wish to file a claim will have until May 19, 2008 to submit a form. The claim form must be postmarked on or before May 19, 2008 for it to be accepted.

London firm to spend $30m on infrastructure if takeover gets go-ahead

The executive chairman of the Kimberley Diamond Company says a UK firm plans to spend millions of dollars upgrading a Western Australian mine if a takeover bid is approved today.

London-based Gem Diamonds is offering 70 cents for every Kimberley share which values the company at $300 million.

Ninety per cent of shareholders will have to accept the offer by the close of business today for the takeover to go ahead.

Kimberley Diamond Company executive chairman Miles Kennedy says Gem Diamonds plans to spend $30 million on infrastructure at the Ellendale Diamond Mine if the bid is accepted.

“One of the things that they envisage this operation needs is the injection of some further $30 million in capital works to enhance the capacities of the diamond production plants,” he said.





Elkedra Diamonds says 3-monthly diamond sales total 1.81 mln usd

LONDON (Thomson Financial) – Elkedra Diamonds NL said it sold 4,575 carats of diamonds for 1.81 mln usd from its three-monthly sales, and produced 4,341 carats of diamonds in the quarter from its Chapada project in Brazil.

The diamond mining company said after the merger with Vaaldiam Resources Ltd, two drill rigs and support staff are expected to be relocated to the Chapada project to advance the exploration programme.

Further, the company said its shareholder will meet on Oct 29, to vote in favour of the proposed merger with Vaaldiam Resources.

It added that it expects mining license for it Peba Lagoinha tenement with the next month, and current planning for the deposit estimates mining within the first quarter of 2008.
